Pediatricians are much more than doctors – they are partners in your child’s health. At First Choice Pediatrics, we understand the importance of feeling completely comfortable with your child’s primary care physician. Your child’s health is our priority, and our board-certified, expert pediatrician has extensive training in children’s health care.
Preventive medicine
Preventive medicine or preventive care consists of measures taken to prevent diseases, (or injuries) rather than curing them or treating their symptoms.
Vaccination
Vaccines protect not only yourself but also others around you. If your vaccine-primed immune system stops an illness before it starts, you will be contagious for a much shorter period of time, or perhaps not at all. Similarly, when other people are vaccinated, they are less likely to give the disease to you. Vaccines protect not only individuals but entire communities. That is why vaccines are vital to the public health goal of preventing diseases.
Hearing and Vision Test
Because learning is mostly accomplished through the senses of vision and hearing, screenings help to identify any barriers that would impair a child’s ability to learn. Early identification and treatment can prevent or at least alleviate many of the problems that result from impaired hearing or vision. Screening is the most practical approach to identifying children in need of professional services.
Blood Work in office
Blood tests usually can be done in a doctor's office or in a lab where technicians are trained to take blood. When only a small amount of blood is needed, the sample can sometimes be taken from a baby by sticking a heel and from an older child by sticking a finger with a small needle.
WIC and Medical Forms
WIC is a special food and nutrition education program for Women, Infants and Children.
Mild Lacerations
Cuts and lacerations are both types of open skin wounds. Cuts can be caused by sharp objects and result in the severing of connective tissue, while lacerations are caused by blunt trauma and result in more jagged wounds. For the most part, the symptoms and treatment options will be the same.
Ear Piercing
Although it may seem routine, let your baby's doctor know ahead of time that you're planning to pierce your baby's ears, and ask what type of complications might arise.
Acute and Chronic Illnesses
An acute disease (as opposed to chronic disease) is medically defined as an adverse condition that appears suddenly, progresses rapidly, and is of relatively short duration. For example, acute bronchitis usually presents itself over a course of less than a week and usually can be cured within a week. Chronic bronchitis usually comes on during a period of years of respiratory damage and is usually a permanent condition. Acute pain appears suddenly and is soon alleviated, while chronic pain goes on for a lengthy period of time.
Allergies
Allergies are an abnormal immune reaction. The human immune system is designed to protect the body from potential harm and in people who have allergies the immune system will react to allergens (substances that trigger an immune response).
Asthma
Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction, and bronchospasm. Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
